Hyderabad: Expressing anger at the HMDA for failing to prevent illegal constructions within the prohibited zone of Osmansagar and Himayatsagar, Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy directed the HMDA to file a status report.
The judge was dealing with a petition by Ms. Potluri Kamala Devi, a resident of Moinabad, seeking to declare as illegal the failure of HMDA to implement GO MS No. 111 dated March 8, 1996.
The judge directed the authorities to stop construction of illegal structures in Moinabad and Himayathnagar villages covered under the GO which was issued to protect the two lakes. Mr. C.M.R. Velu, counsel for the petitioner, said the court had on several occasions ordered implementation of the GO.
The judge said it was unfortunate that illegal constructions were coming up in the prohibited zone of the lakes which provide drinking water.
