Kochi: The CPM would officially launch the ‘desi call-taxi’ services on the lines of online cab service providers like Uber and Ola on January 30.
“The launch of the pilot work that includes a network of 500 taxi drivers will be held on January 30 in Ernakulam. The CPM is not directly launching the services, but will provide all technical support to help our conventional cab providers to be more professional to compete with the corporate cab companies, “ Mr P. Rajeev, CPM district secretary, told DC.
The services in the first stage will be operated as part of the Vytilla-based Taxi Drivers Welfare Society. If found successful, the party would take the initiative for such services in others parts too, he said.
The existing ordinary taxi and auto service providers would be made part of the network if they have valid permits.
