Bengaluru potholes: Mayor sets January 29 deadline
Bengaluru: Mayor Manjunath Reddy instructed BBMP officials to immediately fill potholes in Majestic, KR Market and Hosur Road, and charged the officials with not taking up road repair works despite being told a number of times.
He set January 29 as deadline to complete the tendering process to release the Programme of Works (PoW) for every ward and reviewed the tender process of every division.
Later, he told the officials, “Infrastructure works to the tune of Rs 250 crore will be taken up across the city. Though the election code of conduct ended a week ago, the BBMP is not taking action to complete the tender process. At any cost, it should be done before January 29.”
Mr Reddy, stressing that road widening works have stopped for the last five years, said, “Notices to widen Bannerghatta Road, Tannery Road and Begur Road were issued many years ago. Yet works haven't progressed after issuing notices. Why is this lackadaisical attitude?"
Chief engineer K.T Nagaraj replied that the Palike was waiting for the state government's approval to take further action.
When Mr Reddy asked him why works were pending on some of the major roads, Mr Nagaraj said, “Around 90 per cent of the major roads are pothole-free. Works are remaining on only 10 per cent of the arterial roads."
Mr Reddy then instructed Mr Nataraj to complete the remaining pothole filling works in the next 10 days.
No precautions on TenderSure roads
Mayor Manjunath Reddy warned the BBMP officials that no precautionary measures are being taken on roads where TenderSure project is being implemented. “The citizens are facing problems because of lack of warning signs. The roads where works are going on are not barricaded and construction debris is not cleared. The dust is causing a lot of problems,” he said.
