Mangaluru: Hurricane, an all-terrain vehicle designed by students of Canara Engineering College Mangaluru, is all set to wroom at the national level Baja Student India 2016 vehicle race.
The event will be held at Buddh International Circuit, Noida from January 21 to 26.
In a short span of six months, 'Hurricane' has been designed by a team of 30 mechanical engineering students using modern techniques.
Hurricane with a top speed of 50 kmph, can easily climb hills, steps and move up and down surfaces.
The 305cc 10 Hp petrol engine, coupled with continuous variable transmission (CVT) having a pneumatic suspension, has imported spares as a speciality. “This is the second year our college is participating in the event. We have made several improvements by using imported parts like pneumatic suspension and CVT," vice captain of the team Kiran Pai told Deccan Chronicle.
Having specifications like a 60 inch wheel base, 62 inch track width, ride height of 12 inches and a weight of 240 kg, Hurricane is also capable of pulling weights.
The machine was designed by a young team of budding engineers under the guidance of Mechanical Department HoD Dr Krishna Prabhu along with Assistants Professors Mr Naveen Kalal and Mr Prashanth M.V. The College is one among the 4 participants from the state.
A total of 60 teams are testing their luck in the final round race at the national level this time.
