Sudhindra Swami attains mahasamadhi

The swamiji, who hails from Kochi, took charge of the Samasthan in 1949 following his guru Sukrathindra Thirtha Swamiji.

Kochi: Sudhindra Thirtha Swamiji (90), the twentieth head of Shree Kashi Math Samsthan, attained ‘mahasamadhi’ (the funeral ritual) on Sunday.

The Swamiji, who was undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital for the last two months, passed away at 1.10 am on Sunday.

The spiritual guru of Gowda Saraswatha Brahmin community was flown in an air ambulance to Haridwar as per his wish on Saturday.

“The rituals connected with the mahasamadhi’ led by ‘Patta-Shisya’ Samyamindra Thirtha Swamiji started at 8 pm and completed by 11 pm,” an official of the Ernakulam Thirumala Devaswom said.

The swamiji, who hails from Kochi, took charge of the Samasthan in 1949 following his guru Sukrathindra Thirtha Swamiji. He travelled widely across the country and set up 26 maths.
