Introduce moral instruction in schools: Ramagopalan

Hindu Munnani has urged the state government to introduce moral instruction classes in educational institutions from this academic year.

Chennai: Expressing concern over the degradation of values and growing influence of social media, the Hindu Munnani has urged the state government to introduce moral instruction classes in educational institutions from this academic year.

Pointing out that the present status of education in schools and colleges required a serious “review”, Hindu Munnani founder-convener Ramagopalan said there was an emerging trend of declining social interest and inability on the part of the educational institutions to mould the young minds into responsible citizens.

“The teaching community seemed to lack the qualities to inspire (the students). During a strike by teachers in the past, former Chief Minister MGR told reporters then that despite being highly qualified, the teachers lacked qualities to inspire the students by conducting themselves in an exemplary manner,” he recalled.

Films were another medium that misguided the students, he said and stressed the need to groom the students in the right direction.

“This situation should change and the goal should not be focused only on scoring high percentage in examinations, but overall development and inculcation of moral values,” he emphasised.
