Bengaluru: Car goes up in flames at busy junction
Bengaluru: A moving Maruti car accidentally caught fire near Cauvery Junction on Sunday afternoon. No casualties were reported.
Fire and emergency services department officials said that they received the call around 12 noon.
The driver was heading towards Palace Road when his Maruti 800 car, bearing a Kerala registration number, went up in flames. Pawan, an eyewitness, told the police that the fire was spotted in the engine and the driver tried to switch off the car, but in vain. Soon the fire engulfed the entire car and three women and the driver jumped out to safety.
“It was a narrow escape for the four people in the car. The incident took place near Cauvery Theatre around 12 noon. The car driver has not come to the police station yet to file a complaint. We are trying to trace the occupants of the car. After receiving the information from the police control room, the fire and emergency services department sent a fire tender to the spot,” said the Vyalikaval police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that an electrical short-circuit in the battery had caused the fire. Noticing smoke coming out of the car bonnet, the driver and other occupants ran to safety, the fire officials said.
