Tripping troubles power consumers in Telangana
Hyderabad: Though power consumption came down from 131 million units on Wednesday to 119 million units on Friday in TS, tripping troubled city residents on Sankranti day.
Over 100 feeders tripped in the city. Supply interruptions continued on Saturday too.
On Friday and Saturday tripping complaints poured in Bowenpally, Ameerpet, Addagutta, Sanjeev Reddy Nagar Colony, Falaknuma, Hussaini Alam, Doodh Bowli, Sitaphalmandi, Namalgundu, Warisguda, Begumpet, West Marred-pally, Rasoolpura, Patig-adda and Prakashnagar.
Power officials said the disruptions were not caused by load but by kite threads getting entangled in transmission lines.
Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company officials said the tripping of feeders is likely to continue on Sunday too due to the same problem.
“Despite creating awareness that power lines should not be disturbed if a kite or its thread gets stuck in them people continue to do so risking their lives,” a senior official said.
Officials said the problem of kites and threads getting entangled in power lines is more in slum areas.
People tend to fly kites from roads and streets inside slums and the kite and thread gets stuck in electricity lines. This results in feeders tripping and areas supplied by these feeders get affected.
