Sadananda Gowda okays 9 new High Court judges on Oommen Chandy plea

Mr Chandy said he would start the paperwork for the same in the coming days.

Kochi: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday announced that Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda had promised to create nine new additional posts of judges in the high court. He said this at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the M K Nambyar Academy for continued legal education. “I met Union law Minister Sadananda Gowda today and held discussions about the possibilities of getting a few more judges to the high court. Mr Gowda accepted the request,” the chief minister said.

Mr Chandy said he would start the paperwork for the same in the coming days. At present there are 38 judges in the high court and three posts are lying vacant owing to the collegium issue. With the new posts the number of judges would be 47.
