Indian sprinter M.R. Poovamma is Coorg Person of the Year'

Poovamma has won many medals in international and national athletic events.

Bengaluru: M.R. Poovamma, an Indian sprinter who participated in the Olympics in Beijing in 2008, and currently ranked No.2 in Asia in the 400-meter category, has been voted ‘Coorg Person of the Year, 2015.’ This Arjuna award winner was chosen on the basis of a poll conducted by www.coorgtourisminfo.com, Kodagu’s first news portal.

Poovamma has won many medals in international and national athletic events. She recorded her fastest timing of 52.75 seconds and emerged victorious at the Federation Cup in Patiala in 2013. Most important, she won the gold medal in women's 4 x 400 metres relay at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, 2014, along with Tintu Luka, Mandeep Kaur and Priyanka Pawar.
