But this time the students of the Indian Institute of Management- Kozhikode, the organisers of the seventh edition, will be joining hands with the District Administration’s pet project, Compassionate Kozhikode, and the same will be the theme of the project .
As part of the mini marathon, Kozhikode Corporation Mayor VKC Mammed Koya launched the website of the marathon and carried out the first registration to run for the marathon to be conducted on February 28 starting from Kozhikode beach.
This year the marathon has also associated with Niravu, a non-profit residents’ association in Kozhikode, known for its environment- friendly initiatives in zero waste management and organic farming.
Talking about the Marathon, Kannan Bhadran, one of the organisers, said, “The marathon will feature two categories, a 10 km mini marathon which is a competitive race and a 3 km ‘dream run’, a non-competitive run featuring people from all walks of life”.
Over the past six years, the marathon has been upholding a unique cause every year. It has thus focused on critical issues of women empowerment, rights of differently- abled people, waste management, organ donation and road safety in the past, she added.
More than 1000 runners from around the country are expected to participate in the mini marathon. Last year runners from Ethiopia, Kenya and London also participated in the race.
