King Yama to punish' traffic violators
KALPETTA: ‘Kalan’ (King Yama) has taken an avatar in Wayanad to teach traffic awareness to the lawless drivers and the general public. He was let loose in the streets in Kalpetta by the Motor Vehicles Department as part of the campaign which has become a hit.
A person dressed as 'Kalan,' the lord of death, roamed the streets with a rope noose and sword and issuing free tickets to the lawbreakers to Yamapuri on Thursday.
Wayanad regional transport officer P.A. Sathyan told DC that Kalan had a big impact on the public and that he was getting good response from many parts of the state after it went viral on the social media.
The residents, passengers and riders of Kalpetta town were amazed to see 'Kalan' blocking bike riders without helmets and car drivers without seat belts.
The Kalan warned violators on the 'free death' they were inviting by violating the regulations.
"We got the right guy for donning the attire of Kalan, Mr Sathyan added. "The movements, dialogues and rhythm were apt ensuring the maximum impact. Later, I learned that Kalan was a driving school owner, a talented actor with right physique," he said.
