Gifts from all for this Hindu seer
MANGALURU: Offerings are pouring in from Muslims and Christians who are keen to pay obeisance to Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swami of Pejawar Math ahead of a ritual which would enable him to be in charge of pooja at the famed Sri Krishna shrine in Udupi for next two years.
‘Paryaya’, the ritual scheduled for Monday, would also mark commencement of a series of events planned by Udupi Zilla Muslim Paryaya Sauhardha Samithi over the next two years. Christians and Muslims plan to donate blood and even organs during special camps apart from rice, coconut, vegetables and various produce as ‘Hore kanike,’ to this octogenarian seer who held a key position in VHP and was associated with the construction of temple of Lord Rama in Ayodhya.
At the forefront of this unique initiative, Mohammed Arif, who served as the seer’s driver, said “About 210 people have already registered their name for the blood donation camp, and 140 of them are Muslims. There are many Christians too. Nine more Muslims have volunteered to participate in the organ donation camp,” he told DC.
On Thursday, Christians offered ‘Hore Kanike.’ CWC member and senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes flagged off the event which was led by Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh.
Thousands of devotees from all over the country are set to throng Udupi to witness ‘Paryaya’ on January 18.
