Solar panel to quiz CM Oommen Chandy on January 28
Kochi: The solar commission headed by Justice G. Sivarajan will take evidence from Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in a special sitting in Thiruvananthapuram on January 25.
The chief minister has been served with a notice under section 8-B of the Commission of Enquiry Act to present himself before the commission.
It has decided to hold the special sitting taking into consideration the convenience of the chief minister.
The deposition before the commission will provide an opportunity to Mr. Chandy to answer the allegations levelled by various people in connection with the solar scandal.
Mr. Chandy has already expressed his willingness to appear before the commission. It is also likely to collect evidence from Mr. Chandy about the alleged role of some members in his cabinet in connection with the scandal.
Saritha Nair, one of the prime accused in solar scandal, meanwhile, failed to appear before the commission on Tuesday.
Her counsel had informed the panel that she had to appear in a court in Ramankari in connection with another case.
The commission in the last sitting had asked her to produce the letter purportedly written by her while she was in prison in the next sitting.
Sources said Saritha is not willing to hand over the letter to the commission due to the confidential nature of the content.
The commission had earlier observed that there was a contradiction in the depositions made by the jail superintendent and Mr Fenni Balakrishnan, the counsel for Saritha.
