Security increased ahead of Modi's visit to Varanasi and Lucknow on Jan 22

A letter has been sent to MHA for providing 12 companies each of RAF in the venues.

Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi and Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow on January 22.

"We have started preparations for the visit of the Prime Minister at both these places for which a demand letter for providing 12 companies each of the RAF has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs," IG, Law and Order, A Satish Ganesh said.

"We have also asked for four detachments NSG snipers for both these places and a detailed programme of the VVIP visit is awaited," the officer said.

Arrangements are being made to provide 8 SP rank officials, 15 ASPs, 30 Dy SPs, 150 SIs and 500 constables each for both the places, and additional force will be provided in case it is required, he said.

Although PM Modi's programme was not officially known, he is likely to attend a programme hosted by Ministry of Social Welfare and Justice in Varanasi, Mr Ganesh said.

In Lucknow, Prime Minister is likely to attend an university convocation.

President Pranab Mukherjee is also scheduled to visit Gautam Budh Nagar on January 18 for which a demand of eight companies of PAC and civil police has been made and it is being processed.

The IG said that a team of Rampur police will attend the Republic Day function in Udhamsingh Nagar district of neighbouring Uttarakhand and vice-versa.
