Chennai corporration to resurface' damaged flyovers

Sardar Patel Road, Perambur flyovers to get makeover.

Chennai: The Chennai corporation will begin resurfacing of damaged flyovers by end of January, officials said.

The Sardar Patel Road flyover in front of IIT-M campus and the Perambur flyover have been identified as the ones which require a fresh coating of bitumen by local body officials.

“Patchworks have been conducted on damaged spots but the flyovers need to be relaid in full. We will start the cold milling process soon,” said an official.

Officials told Deccan Chronicle that there would be minimal traffic disruptions and that they intend to carry out the work in a space of three or four days and in the middle of the night.

Korukkupet flyover to open on Jan. 18
The long delayed flyover on Cochrane Basin Bridge road over erstwhile Korukkupet railway level crossing will be open to public from January 18, according to corporation officials.

Conceived in 2007, during the then DMK regime, the bridge was a slow starter after getting mired in numerous difficulties ranging from land acquisition to coordination problems with the railways, who is also a partner in the project.

“Still there are light poles to be erected but it will be complete before the Assembly session begins. The Chief Minister will open the flyover through video-conferencing,” an official said.

The 531 m long bridge connects Kathivakkam High Road and Cochrane Basin Road. It is a two lane flyover of width 8.5 m and completed at a cost of '16.66 crore.
