Telangana: Candidates asked to sign bonds, protect Wakf lands
Hyderabad: The Deccan Wakf Protection Society has appealed to all aspirant candidates for the GHMC elections to sign an affidavit declaring that they will protect Wakf properties in the state if elected.
DWPS president Osman Bin Mohammed Al-Hajri said, “Once parties finalise their candidates, we will approach them and get this declaration signed. It is very important that the elected representatives and their family members understand that Wakf land is for the benefit of the community and encroachments, be it by a private party or family, will not help.”
In the last few years, there are 1015 Wakf land cases pending in the Supreme Court, High Court and civil courts. The Wakf Board has won only eight of the 296 cases disposed of so far.
Mr Al-Hajri explained, “Twenty-seven acres of the land at Toli Masjid has been grabbed by local politicians and function halls have been built on it. In Madhapur, another 30 acres have been completely encroached. In Attapur 488 acres of Mir Mahmood Pahadi dargah has been illegally occupied by encroachers.”
With a lot of properties gone, the society has now come forward to ensure that the new local leaders do not indulge in the same tactics and work towards protecting Wakf lands.
