Mumbai waiter dies after wine-tasting session

According to forensic experts, poisoning due to undue chemical reactions might have led to the death.

Mumbai: A 35-year-old employee at a plush Italian bar-and-restaurant died on Wednesday in Khar after tasting 12 samples of wine in a wine-tasting workshop.

The deceased, Pukhrimayum Akhtar Hussain, who was getting trained to become a captain at Yellow Bar All Day at Khar died immediately after participating in a workshop that specifically catered to wine-tasting, according to a report in Mid-day.

Hussain had tasted around ten different samples and had a full glass of wine after the completion of the workshop. He was found at the restaurant gate in an inebriated condition soon after the workshop. On testifying his condition, the security personnel apprised the manager of the situation who in return asked Hussain to rest inside the bar. However, after persistent prodding when Hussain didn’t answer back, the manager realized that he had become unconscious. Hussain was rushed to Bhaba hospital immediately, where he took his last breath.

The Khar police are probing the case; however, the reason behind his death hasn’t been confirmed yet. The post-mortem report of the deceased is still on its way. According to forensic experts, poisoning due to undue chemical reactions might have led to the death.
