Kidney racket kingpin Prajapathi, 2 others held
Hyderabad: The Nalgonda police arrested three persons on Tuesday, including kingpin Suresh Prajapathi of Gujarat, in the international kidney racket. Cops found that nearly 60 persons had donated kidneys and Prajapathi made around Rs 3 crore.
The police booked cases against the doctors who operated the donors in Lanka. SP Vikramjeet Duggal said Prajapati arranged kidney receivers and donors from India. His friend Dilip Umedmal Chouhan arranged medical tests for receivers and donors illegally. The police who tracked the phone of Prajapathi, nabbed donor J. Nooka Raju, working at a hotel in Hyderabad. Raju donated his kidney through Prajapathi and also arranged donors.
“In 2012, Prajapathi met Dhawal Daruwala and started the racket. The surgeries were carried out at Navlok Hospital, Hema Hosp-ital, Lankan Hospital and Western Hospital in Colombo. All donors and recipients were Indians,” said Mr Duggal. Prajapathi charged '30 lakh from receivers, but gave only Rs 5 lakh to donors.
The police filed cases against Dr Madhava, Dr Monik and Dr Mrs Sadhana of Navlok Hospital, Dr Chamila of Hema Hospital, Dr Niroshini of Lankan Hospital and Dr Shareef of Western Hospital in Colombo and special teams were set up to nab them.
