Bengaluru: 10-year-old cancer patient mowed down by lorry
Bengaluru: A 10-year-old boy died on the spot while his father sustained injuries when a brick-laden tipper lorry allegedly rear ended their two-wheeler on Tuesday morning. The mishap occurred near CPRI gate near 9th Cross Junction around 11.15 am on Sadashivanagar Road in Sadashivanagar traffic police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Mohit, 10, son of Suryanarayana, 35, a swimming instructor at Bowring Institute. The injured father and son were rushed to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital, where Mohit was declared brought dead, while Suryanarayana is said to be out of danger.
According to the police, the tragedy struck when Suryanarayana, a resident of Jalahalli, and his son were going towards Yeshwanthpur from Mekhri Circle to visit a temple as Mohit was suffering from cancer for the last three years. A lorry, which was moving in the same direction, hit their scooter while trying to overtake. Due to the impact, both fell on the road and the lorry ran over Mohit killing him on the spot, while his father sustained injuries in his hand.
Fearing public wrath, the lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Passersby, who rushed to their help, alerted the police and rushed them to the nearby M.S. Ramaiah Hospital. The Sadashivanagar traffic police have registered a case under section 304 A of IPC for causing death due to negligence and rash driving, and have launched a manhunt to nab the driver.
