The deceased, Arun Kumar, a resident of Ganganagar, was working as a driver in a private company.

Bengaluru: An abduction plan turned fatal for a 27-year-old cab driver and his associates after two abducted youngsters turned the tables on them and allegedly beat the driver to death in Gangenahalli under R.T. Nagar police limits early on Monday morning.

The deceased, Arun Kumar, a resident of Ganganagar, was working as a driver in a private company. He was bludgeoned to death, while his associate Darshan sustained critical injuries after six friends of the abducted men attacked the kidnappers with lethal weapons.

Ravi Bawra, and his friend Sandeep, both caterers, who were allegedly abducted, have been detained by the police. DCP North T.R. Suresh said, “Arun and his five associates had hatched a plot to kidnap Ravi, who supplies food for functions at the Palace Grounds. Ravi was returning home along with Sandeep when they were accosted and abducted by Arun and his gang around 2 am. The kidnappers drove towards Chikkajala and demanded a ransom of Rs 1 lakh.

However, Ravi convinced the kidnappers to take him to Gandhinagar, where he could give them cash. As they were heading back to the city, Ravi had secretly informed his friends about the kidnapping and told them to be ready for the attack.” When the kidnappers’ vehicle reached Gandhinagar, the gang of six that was lying in wait launched the attack with deadly weapons on Arun and his four associates. Arun died on the spot, sustaining injuries on head and chest. Darshan got injured in his hand. The other associates of Arun fled from the spot, the police said.
