GHMC polls: Ex-corporator tries to end life for ticket

BJP activists gathered at the spot to make him come down from the building.

Hyderabad: Tension gripped the Seethaphalmandi area when former corporator Krishna Murthy threatened to commit suicide after he was denied a BJP ticket for the GHMC elections. Many BJP activists gathered at the spot to make him come down from the building. He finally came down after the police arrived.

Krishna Murthy is a cable operator and a BJP worker with close ties to many senior state BJP leaders.

He said the party leadership had assured him a ticket in the GHMC elections and he was confidant of winning. The division was reserved for BC women.

He expected someone from his family would get the ticket. But with the TD and the BJP joining hands, Seetha-phalmandi (division No: 145) was allocated to the TD and ticket was given to one M. Keerthi.

Mr Krishna Murthy owns a five floor building which he had rented to the Kakatiya High School.

On Sunday at around 5.30 am he went to the top floor of the building and threatened to commit suicide. His family tried to dissuade him.

“We tried to make him come down but he was not willing. Later, after consulting senior BJP leaders he came down,” said Chilkalguda inspector K. Srinivasulu. Sources said that he got a clear assurance from party seniors on his future after the elections.
