Police busts inter-state Marijuana pusher gang

The trio was transporting Marijuana to major cities from Visakhapatnam.

Hyderabad: Three days after a Guntur woman was captured at the Secunderabad railway station while smuggling Marijuana in a train from Visakhapatnam, police busted the inter-state gang by arresting three people, who employed the woman. The trio was transporting Marijuana to major cities from Visakhapatnam. They used women or other passengers to avoid the police. Cops recovered 80 kg of Marijuana from them.

The main peddler, Ravi Kumar, 24, hailing from Rolugunta Mandal of Vizag, buys Marijuana in bulk from Chintapalli in Vishakhapatnam and smuggles it to other cities. The second accused, Rakesh Varma, 36, who is an online ticket booking agent, from New Delhi, is now based in Hyderabad to distribute the drug here.

The third person, Mohd Ibrahim, 65, from Mahbubnagar, is a middleman between Ravi Kumar and Rakesh Varma. The Guntur woman, Yashodamma, 40, who was arrested by the police earlier, was just a smuggler working for the gang for money. “They use smugglers, who bring ganja by train and hand it over to Ibrahim. Sometimes, Ibrahim visits Vizag to collect the stuff,” said inspector Thakur Sukhdev Singh.

“During interrogation we came to know that Ravi Kumar purchases each kg of ganja for Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 from Vizag and smuggles it to other cities and sell each kg for Rs 6,000,” added the inspector. Police busted the gang after getting info from Yashodamma who had confessed after her arrest. She also claimed that she was suffering from cancer.
