Telangana: Two jailed for cloning atm cards

Hyderabad: Two persons who were involved in an ATM card cloning racket were sentenced to three years imprisonment by a court here on Tuesday. The two were arrested by the Punjagutta police in November 2014. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 each on the accused.

West Zone DCP A. Satyanar-ayana said the duo, Hyder Ali Sarang and Avith Ashok Shetty, from Mumbai were involved in ATM fraud. They used to clone the debit cards of their victims and withdraw money from their accounts.

Five cases were registered against them at the Punjagutta police station in November 2014.

“They were involved in 32 similar cases under various police stations across Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates. The money was withdrawn from locations at Goa, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Chennai,” he said.

The accused who were also detained under the PD Act for a year and lodged at the Chanchalguda prison completed 14 months in judicial custody.

The XIV Additional Chief Metropolitan magistrate after hearing arguments, sentenced the duo to simple imprisonment of three years and a fine of Rs 5,000 and Rs10,000. They should undergo imprisonment another nine months if they fail to pay the fine.
