Hyderabad: Two arrested in fake note scam
Hyderabad: Police on Sunday arrested two persons including a woman who were circulating fake currency in Medak district and seized Rs 1.34 lakh of such notes and '22,900. Kishan Nayak and Lalita belong to the same family; five other gang members, also from the same family, are absconding.
Police said Mr T.V.S. Chary, a store manager at Ramachandrapuram, noticed fake Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes at the cash counters and asked the staff to be alert.
On January 3, a staff member at one of the counters noticed that a couple had handed over a fake Rs 500 note. The couple were later identified as Nayak and his sister-in-law Lalitha.
By the time the staff alerted the police, the duo fled. Police traced and arrested Lalitha on Wednesday and Kishan on Sunday.
During investigation, police found that Kishan had been arrested by the Kukatpally and Niza-mabad police for circulating fake noted and was out on bail.
“Three months ago, he exchanged Rs 2.8 lakh original currency for fake currency of '7 lakh from an agent identified as Baba in West Bengal,” said Ramachan-drapuram sub-inspector Praveen Reddy.
Nayak distributed the fake notes among his relatives.to his brother Dharma Nayak, sister-in-law Lalita Nayak, nephew Shankar and relatives Prakash, Ravi and Sudhakar. With Kishan Nayak and Lalita in the net, police is looking for the other gang members.
