AUS vs IND: Josh Hazlewood rested for remainder of home season

Hazlewood was Australia's most economical bowler in the first ODI in Perth.

Brisbane: Australia’s pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood has been rested and will not be part of the remainder of the ODI series against India, including the subsequent three-match Twenty20 International series.

Josh has played all six Tests this summer and has had a high workload. On that basis the decision has been made to give him a break to allow him to recharge both physically and mentally ahead of the tour of New Zealand. We regard it as sensible management of the player and it is an approach that we have adopted successfully in Australian cricket over a significant period of time, especially in the one-day format," Darren Lehmann, Australia head coach, said in an official press release on Friday.

With figures of 1 for 41, Hazlewood was Australia's most economical bowler in the first ODI in Perth but then made way for Kane Richardson in the second encounter in Brisbane.

John Hastings, who featured in Brisbane and performed reasonable well with an economy rate of 5.75 bagged 1 for 46 in his spell of eight overs, has been retained for the remainder of the series.

The complete squad for the lat two ODIs will be announced after the game in Melbourne on January 17.
