AUS vs INDIA, 2nd ODI: 5 reasons why India lost in Brisbane
Brisbane: India lost the second ODI to Australia, going 2-0 down in the five-match series, by seven wickets here on Friday. This is the second time in a row the team has lost after posting a 300-plus total and a ton by opener Rohit Sharma. What could be the reasons for the debacle? Let’s find out.
Slog over low: The Indian batting, which went off to a flier in the first 30 overs, ran out of steam in the death overs. After being comfortably placed at 233/2, the visitors managed only 75 runs in the last 10 with the loss of six wickets.
MS Dhoni’s form: The Indian skipper is yet to find his magical touch Down Under. A blitzkrieg from him could stand in good stead for the Men in Blue. He departed after a boring 11 off 16 balls.
The lacklustre bowling: Though the Indian seamers and spinners tried to check runs in the Brisbane ODI, they could not dislodge the stumps. The Australian openers, Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh, stitched a 145-run opening partnership which clearly took the game away from India.
Wicketless Ashwin: Ravichandran Ashwin, after a successful outing against South Africa in Tests, has been on a leather hunt in tour Down under. The spinner conceded 60 runs without a wicket in his quota of 10 overs.
The dropped catch: Ishant Sharma dropped a sitter fielding in the deep. Shaun Marsh ended up scoring a handsome 71 off 84 balls. The tables could have turned had the opening partnership been broken earlier. Though the lanky pacer took the wicket of Marsh later but the damage had been done.
