Meet the man once hit by Indian cricketer Barinder Sran

Aussie umpire John Ward dealt a severe blow while officiating during Ranji Trophy.

Mumbai: Team India's new fast bowler Barinder Sran is in line for his international debut in the ODI series against Australia.

A situation may arise when the 23-year-old left-arm fast bowler may get an opportunity to interact with the Australian umpire John Ward – who was seriously injured after Sran hit a ball straight to him (accidentally) while batting during the Ranji Trophy match between Punjab and Tamil Nadu in December.

The 54-year-old Ward is scheduled to officiate (subject to his fitness condition) in the fourth ODI at Canberra on January 20.

Speaking exclusively from Australia, Ward says: “I am pleased that Barinder (Sran) has been in the team for this tour. I can certainly vouch that he hits a ball straight and hard. If I meet him I would certainly let him know that I don't blame him at all and these accidents do happen from time to time".

"I have recovered from the injury and am undergoing the six-week convalescing period. Once cleared by the medical team, I will be officiating against India,” he added.

"I am aware that Paschim Pathak, who was my colleague in that match now wears a helmet and I will be considering doing the same,” he said.
