CPI(M), Congress Beat TMC In Cooperative Polls

Out of the 12 seats at Achra-Jamaipara Krishi Unnayan Cooperative Society election held on Sunday, the two allies in the opposition won five seats each, sparing remaining two for the TMC.

Berhampore: The CPI(M)-Congress alliance has wrested a cooperative society from ruling Trinamul Congress at Nabagram in Murshidabad of West Bengal.

Out of the 12 seats at Achra-Jamaipara Krishi Unnayan Cooperative Society election held on Sunday, the two allies in the opposition won five seats each, sparing remaining two for the TMC.

The results came out at night under tight security arrangements. Earlier the TMC had won the cooperative society in 2020 uncontested. District Congress leader Dhirendra Nath Yadav congratulated the voters.

He said, "From Nabagram Adhir Chowdhury started his political career in 1996 as an MLA. It is a strong CPI(M) base. But TMC has unleashed a reign of terror. It grabbed the cooperative during the COVID through the back door and won all seats without any contest. But this time, the voters gave a fitting reply to them. We lost in two seats by two votes only.”
