200 Workers Rescued After Being Trapped in Veligonda Tunnel Floods

Prakasam: A major mishap was averted after around 200 workers were trapped by sudden floodwaters inside the second tunnel of the Veligonda project near Kothur in Pedda Dornala mandal, Prakasam district.

The workers, who were engaged in lining work inside the tunnel, were caught off guard when floodwaters entered the area. Upon receiving information, officials immediately launched a rescue operation. The workers were safely moved to Kollam Vagu, close to the Krishna River.

“Arrangements are being made to shift them to Srisailam by boats,” said Veligonda Executive Engineer Krishna Reddy, confirming that all workers are safe.
