BJP MLAs Raise Irrigation, Compensation Issues During Question Hour

The Telangana Assembly continued its proceedings for the third day on Tuesday. Soon after the House convened, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar took up Question Hour. During the session, BJP MLAs raised several constituency-related issues, particularly focusing on irrigation projects, compensation for displaced farmers, and lack of irrigation facilities.

Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar highlighted the problems faced by farmers displaced by the Chanaka Korata project. He demanded justice for the affected families, stating that lands worth crores of rupees were compensated with only a few lakhs. He pointed out that even after a decade, farmers have neither received water nor compensation, forcing them to undertake a padayatra to Hyderabad. He urged the government to immediately release funds and compensate the displaced farmers.

Sirpur MLA Palvai Harish Babu demanded the immediate completion of the Jainathpur project, expressing concern that despite no financial constraints and repeated meetings with the Chief Minister and concerned ministers, files were not moving. He said completion of the project would provide irrigation to two mandals and bring significant benefits to farmers.

Mudhol MLA Ramrao Patel called on the government to complete the Pranahita–Chevella project and expedite the Pre-PR Lift Irrigation Project.

Meanwhile, BJP Armur MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy demanded an allocation of Rs 2,000 crore for the modernisation of Nizamsagar canals. He alleged that Nizamabad district had suffered severe neglect both during the united Andhra Pradesh era and after statehood, accusing the irrigation minister of failing to take concrete action over the past two years.
