Telangana Unveils Major Welfare Push for Employees, Labour; ₹998 Crore Allocated

  • Cashless health scheme to cover 23.51 lakh employees and families
  • ₹1.2 crore accident insurance for government staff and pensioners
  • Retirement benefits for Anganwadi workers introduced
  • Overseas employment programme expanded for youth

The Telangana government has announced a series of welfare measures for employees, pensioners, and labourers, with an allocation of ₹998 crore for the Labour Welfare Department.

A key highlight is the rollout of the Employees Health Scheme (EHS), offering cashless treatment for 1,998 diseases across government and 421 empanelled private hospitals. The scheme, to be implemented through the Rajiv Aarogyasri Trust, will benefit around 23.51 lakh employees, pensioners, and their dependent family members with digital health cards.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the government has also introduced a comprehensive accident insurance scheme, providing ₹1.2 crore coverage in case of accidental death, ₹10 lakh term life insurance up to the age of 60, and an additional ₹2 crore coverage in case of air accidents. This will cover 7.57 lakh employees and pensioners.

The government has also sanctioned retirement benefits for Anganwadi staff, offering ₹2 lakh to teachers and ₹1 lakh to helpers, including those opting for voluntary retirement at 60 years.

On the labour front, the State is strengthening workforce support through the T-GATE platform, which provides skill development, career guidance, and job linkages. Over 1.03 lakh workers have been registered under the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, with ₹276.78 crore distributed to beneficiaries.

Additionally, the government is expanding overseas job opportunities through the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Limited, and has launched the CM Overseas Employment Programme to provide training, language skills, and placement support for youth in countries such as the UAE, Germany, Japan, the UK, and Canada.

Officials said the initiatives aim to enhance social security, improve workforce skills, and expand employment opportunities both within India and abroad.
