Telangana Strengthens Public Healthcare, ₹13,679 Crore Allocated

  • Digital health cards for all citizens with public health profiles
  • 17 new medical colleges and expansion of hospital infrastructure
  • Specialised centres for cancer, elderly care, and transgender health
  • Major boost to beds capacity across government hospitals

The Telangana government has announced a major push to strengthen public healthcare, with an allocation of ₹13,679 crore for the Medical and Health Department.

Focusing on universal and quality healthcare, the State will introduce a comprehensive public health profiling system, providing digital health cards to all citizens while ensuring strict data confidentiality.

To improve healthcare access, the government has established specialised facilities including Day Care Cancer Centres, Non-Communicable Disease Clinics, Senior Citizen clinics, Palliative Care Centres, and Maitri Clinics for transgender persons across district headquarters.

Infrastructure expansion remains a key focus. The State is taking up construction of 17 new medical colleges, while significantly increasing bed capacity in government hospitals. With new facilities such as TIMS hospitals and expansion of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, total tertiary care beds are set to reach 44,029—surpassing national standards.

Additionally, 9 government medical colleges, 16 nursing colleges, and 28 paramedical colleges have been established to strengthen medical education.

The government said it is shifting focus from treatment-based care to preventive healthcare, prioritising maternal and child health, youth health, chronic disease control, and mental healthcare.
