Hyderabad: The Telangana government has proposed an allocation of ₹21,285 crore for the Energy Department, emphasising reliable supply, infrastructure expansion, and a shift towards renewable energy.
The State currently has an installed power capacity of 23,187 MW and recently met a record peak demand of 18,228 MW, with the highest-ever consumption of 341.08 million units recorded on March 13, 2026.
The government highlighted major infrastructure upgrades, including commissioning of three 800 MW units at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station, along with expansion of substations and transmission networks.
Focus is also on clean energy, with plans for 1,500 MWh battery storage systems at Maheshwaram and Choutuppal, and investments worth over ₹2 lakh crore in pumped storage and green energy projects through TGGENCO and REDCO.
To improve public services, initiatives like 24x7 helpline (1912), electrical ambulances, and doorstep grievance redressal under Praja Bata–Polam Bata are being implemented.
The government also underlined its welfare focus, noting that over 53 lakh families benefit from the Gruha Jyothi scheme, alongside continued support for farmers and free power to key sectors.
