Indian airlines advised to avoid 11 Middle East nations till March 2

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Saturday advised airlines to avoid airspaces of 11 countries, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE, till March 2 amid the tensions followed by US and Israel strikes on Iran. The countries are:

  • Iran
  • Israel
  • Lebanon
  • UAE
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Bahrain
  • Oman
  • Iraq
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait
  • Qatar
This advisory is effective immediately and remains valid until March 2, 2026 (unless reviewed or superseded by further developments). It aligns with international safety standards and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency's Conflict Zone Information Bulletin (CZIB).Many airspaces in the region are already shut or restricted following the US-Israel strikes on Iran (which began on February 28, 2026), leading to flight cancellations, diversions, and suspensions by Indian carriers like IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet to/from Middle East destinations as a precautionary measure.
The advisory urges airlines to refrain from operating in these airspaces at all flight levels and altitudes, with rerouting/diversions required for safety. This is amid the ongoing escalation in the Middle East, including retaliatory actions across the region. Airlines are monitoring the situation closely for any updates.
