Telangana to Set Up Life Sciences University: Sridhar Babu
Telangana attracts major global life sciences investments, generating 51,000 direct jobs and 1.5 lakh indirect jobs in 2024.

Hyderabad: Several global life sciences companies have announced their business plans for Telangana in 2024, which will create 51,000 direct jobs and 1.5 lakh indirect jobs, said industries minister D Sridhar Babu.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of BioAsia 2025 on Tuesday, Sridhar Babu said: “For the past 12 months, we have witnessed a surge of investment from several international and domestic companies who have chosen Telangana as the gateway to India. From pharma manufacturing and research and development centres to GCCS innovation hubs, these investments across the life sciences value chain are making Telangana a leader in this space globally.”
Genome Valley, the heart of the life sciences industry, continues to attract investments. “For the past year alone, we have witnessed several global life sciences companies announcing their plans for Telangana, which will generate about 51,000 direct jobs and 1,50,000 indirect jobs in the state,” Sridhar Babu said.
“The government plans to establish a life sciences university to create a workforce with industry relevant expertise in Hyderabad. We are designing a curriculum in science and technology to ensure the talent remains globally competitive,” he said, adding that the government is working to launch a deep tech sandbox for pharma and the life science system.
“Today, we produce about 20 per cent of the world's generic medicines and 40 per cent of the global vaccine production. We export $5-billion worth drugs serving about 200 countries,” Sridhar Babu said.
