Small Finance Bank Launches Book On Banking
Through real experiences shared by Vasudevan, the book traces Equitas’ journey from a microfinance institution to a Small Finance Bank, highlighting how governance shaped strategic decisions.
Chennai: Equitas Small Finance Bank launched the book - When Organisations Win – Governance, Trust and the Values of Equitas Small Finance Bank, authored by Dr CA Sangeeta Shankaran Sumesh. The book offers an inside look at Equitas’ governance philosophy through extensive conversations with P N Vasudevan, MD & Founder.
The book positions governance not as a checklist of rules and compliance, but as a mindset, behavioural framework and value‑driven decision-making process. It examines how organisations navigate difficult choices, competing priorities and evolving risks while staying anchored in trust and integrity.
Central to the narrative is the Frames Approach to Governance, a model used at Equitas to view governance through multiple “frames” — enabling dynamic action plans, continuous learning and an evolving governance architecture.
The book delves into several governance dimensions like board–management alignment, sensitivity to regulatory signals, engagement with RBI, customer‑centric governance, business model and credit risk, technology and operational controls and investor relationships.

P N Vasudevan reflects: “Governance is not a destination. It is a continuous journey. As an organisation evolves, its governance framework also needs to evolve. The Frames approach has helped us look at governance from multiple frames and continuously challenge ourselves to do better.”
Dr Sangeeta Sumesh adds: “Governance comes alive in the choices an organisation makes, especially when doing the right thing even when nobody is watching. This book encourages leaders to look at governance through a wider lens and reflect on what it could mean in their own organisations.”
