New Delhi: The government on Monday said that India’s production growth of nine core infrastructure sectors at a five-month high of 5 per cent in June. This is the first revised series of the index of core industries (ICI) with a new base year of 2022-23, expanding its coverage with the inclusion of iron ore.
Issuing the data, the ministry of commerce and industry on Monday said that under the new series (base year 2022-23), India’s core sectors recorded a cumulative growth of 5 per cent year-on-year in June. “The core sectors’ growth was 3.2 per cent in the preceding month, while it was 1.1 per cent in June 2025. The increase in growth for the month of June was due to an increase in output of cement, electricity and iron ore,” the ministry said.

“However crude oil output continued to be under pressure as it fell by 4.2 per cent in June as well. At the same period, natural gas production continued to slip, as it fell 7.4 per cent in June in comparison to a decline of 5 per cent in May. Meanwhile, steel production remained robust, rising by 4.6 per cent in the last month after a 5.1 per cent climb in May. The coal sector witnessed an uptick of 1.4 per cent, after a 9.5 per cent decline in the preceding month,” the data showed.
