The German automaker has priced the new Mercedes electric GLC at Rs 78.50 lakh, with deliveries starting next week to coincide with Diwali festivities.

Pune: Mercedes-Benz, India’s biggest luxury car maker, has sold out its new GLC Electric SUV for the year before the launch and price announcement on Wednesday, officials said, adding more than 1,000 units were already booked by customers.
The German automaker has priced the new Mercedes electric GLC at Rs 78.50 lakh, with deliveries starting next week to coincide with Diwali festivities.
“We have confirmed 1,000-plus bookings of this new GLC Electric car,” said Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India.
“The new electric GLC was sold out through March 2027 and we are approaching the company’s global leadership for more cars, more kits, so that we can produce more here locally at Chakan factory, near Pune,” he said, adding that it was looking for ways to shorten waiting period.

The GLC Electric joins the fastest selling CLA Electric, EQS SUV, EQS Maybach SUV and G-580 in the electric line-up.
The GLC EV’s market response has boosted Mercedes-Benz’s plans to expand its electric offering across core luxury segments.
The new SUV joins a new generation of products that Chairman Ola Källenius expects to strengthen demand for electric vehicles.
“The GLC is our bestselling model worldwide and the electric model is built on its heritage and the new electric models are going to start taking off in a big way,” he said.
Källenius said Mercedes has bigger plans to launch 40 models over three years, spanning electric and combustion vehicles, offering electric versions from top to bottom in its portfolio.
“Every Mercedes car sold globally has a piece of India in it,” he said, indicating that India will have a bigger role, underscoring the country’s engineering importance to the German luxury carmaker beyond its domestic vehicle business.
Källenius said India is home to the company's second-largest research and development organization worldwide, after Germany, by a wide margin.
According to company officials Mercedes EVs could account for 25–30 per cent of its sales in India if adequate supplies were available. The GLC EV’s opening order book puts the focus on securing sufficient allocation to meet that demand.
Iyer said the company has committed an additional investment of Rs 200 crore toward manufacturing operations, new product launches, and shop floor digitization, bringing its cumulative investment in India to Rs 3,200 crore.
