Navratri Auto Retail Sales Rise 27% to 11.23 Lakh Units, Says FADA

Overall vehicle registrations rose 26.76 per cent compared to the comparable 10-day Navratri period in 2024 (8.86 lakh units), though sales saw a 6.52 per cent decline relative to the 11-day Navratri period in 2025 (12 lakh units).

Pune: India’s automobile industry sold a whopping 11.23 lakh vehicles during the 10-day Navratri festival period October 11–20, driven by strong two-wheeler growth and expanding electric vehicle penetration, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) said on Wednesday.

Overall vehicle registrations rose 26.76 per cent compared to the comparable 10-day Navratri period in 2024 (8.86 lakh units), though sales saw a 6.52 per cent decline relative to the 11-day Navratri period in 2025 (12 lakh units).

Sai Giridhar, FADA presiden said the year-on-year variation against 2025 was primarily influenced by calendar differences, noting that Navratri 2025 spanned 11 days alongside the implementation of GST 2.0, which consolidated demand.

Comparing 2024 provides a benchmark for underlying retail momentum across key segments, particularly two-wheelers and electric vehicles, heading into the Dhanteras and Diwali sales window, he noted.

The Navratri 2026 total sales excluded registration figures for three-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and tractors in Telangana due to non-availability.

The two-wheeler registrations jumped 32.41 per cent at 8,34,075 units, compared to 6,29,909 units in 2024, while declining 2.79 per cent against 8,58,027 units recorded during the 11-day period in 2025.

Passenger vehicles grew 10.39 per cent at 1,82,728 units compared to 1,65,534 units in 2024 and a 21.91 per cent drop compared to 2,34,004 units in 2025.

Commercial vehicle registrations reached 35,618 units, up 16.47 per cent from 30,580 units in 2024 and up 1.12 per cent from 35,224 units in 2025.

Three-wheeler sales recorded 45,735 units, reflecting a 19.04 per cent increase over 2024 (38,419 units) and a 7.51 per cent dip compared to 2025 (49,450 units).

The festive season for Maruti Suzuki has been encouraging, with strong customer demand through Navratri. “Between Ganesh Chaturthi and Dussehra, our retail sales grew by 35 per cent, with small-car retail increasing by around 16 per cent and SUV retail doubling,” Partho Banerjee, senior executive officer, Maruti Suzuki, said, adding that the retail sales during the Navratri period is almost same as last year.

Amit Kamat, CCO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said the response during Navratri has been particularly encouraging, with over 50,000 vehicles delivered during this festive period, including more than 10,000 on Dussehra alone.

“With a healthy booking pipeline and the celebrations building towards Diwali, we look forward to carrying this strong momentum through the festive season,” he said.
