Bank Nifty also saw an upward climb and went up over 113 points or 0.58 per cent to rest at 1,9586.
After opening a shade higher at 26,304.90, the Sensex advanced to the day's high of 26,449.87.
Mumbai: Markets on Friday continue to defy weak sentiments in their global peers. They started the day in green and on a positive note.
Benchmark Sensex rose 144 points or 0.52 per cent to rest at 27852.40 in early trade today.
Broader Nifty registered a 0.37 per cent rise and rested on 8,635 level in the morning trade. Bank Nifty index also saw an upward climb. It went up over 113 points or 0.58 per cent to rest at 1,9586 in early trade.
