Sensex rebounds 37 points in late morning trade
Mumbai: Markets staged a mild recovery in late morning trade, with benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rising over 37 and 18 points, respectively following a fresh buying mainly in energy, FMCG, IT, oil and gas and power stocks.
The BSE Mid-Cap index and the Small-Cap index were currently up by 0.04 per cent and 0.26 per cent, respectively. The 30-share index resumed higher at 28,805.94 and later moved in a range of 28,828.42 and 27,697.33. It was quoting at 27,812.12 at 1100 hours, showing a rise of 37.24 points or 0.13 per cent from its last close. The NSE 50-share Nifty quoted almost flat at 8,575.45.
Major gainers were, Lupin 1.49 pct, Reliance 1.40 per cent, ITC 1.11 per cent, ICICI Bank 1.04 per cent and TCS 0.96 per cent. While, Sunpharma fell by 3.23 per cent, followed by M&M by 1.47 per cent, SBIN 1.27 per cent and Coal India 0.84 per cent.
Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 412.56 crore yesterday, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. In overseas markets, Asian stocks witnessed a mixed trend on August 11.
US stocks closed slightly lower on August 10, with the S&P 500 index and Nasdaq Composite index retreating from record levels as energy sector came under renewed pressure.
