Jio Leads April Mobile Subscriber Gains; Airtel Slows, Vi And BSNL See Losses

New Delhi: Telecom giant Reliance Jio on Thursday emerged as the leader in net additions of mobile subscribers in April, followed by Bharti Airtel, while state-owned BSNL and Vodafone Idea suffered a net loss in this subscription, according to the data released by telecom watchdog Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).
The data, however, showed that Reliance Jio added 26.4 lakh mobile subscribers in April, up from 21.7 lakh net additions in March. Bharti Airtel added 1.71 lakh mobile subscribers in April, a notable decrease from the 12.5 lakh net additions in March. At the same time Vodafone Idea faced challenges, as it lost 6.47 lakh mobile subscribers in April, compared to 5.4 lakh users lost in March," the data showed.
Similarly, the data further showed that BSNL experienced a net loss of 1.55 lakh mobile subscribers in April, a significant shift from the 49,177 mobile user additions in March. The state-owned telecom operator is grappling with operational and competitive challenges, impacting its subscriber base.
