Call drop mask to face probe
New Delhi: Coming down on allegations that telecom companies have introduced a new software to mask call drops and overcharge consumers, telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Monday ordered an enquiry into the issue.
“I have taken this issue seriously and I have directed my department that it take up the issue seriously along with Trai,” said Mr Prasad. The minister said that due to pressure from the government, telecom companies have set up one lakh new towers in last 10 months to address the issues of call drops.
He said that the government will soon auction the highest quantity of spectrum so there will be huge spectrum available with the companies. Earlier, the call used to get automatically disconnected if the user moved to a poor network area, making it a ‘dropp-ed call’. But reports claim that telecom companies are using a new software which keeps call connected despite poor signal.
