Bengaluru: The IT & BT and Tourism minister, Priyank Kharge on Tuesday highlighted the contribution of companies from tier two cities to the state’s IT sector, while announcing this year’s STPI IT Exports Awards at the Bengaluru ITE.biz 2016 event.

“Companies in tier 2 cities have made a promising turn for software exports, with cities such as Managluru, Hubballi, Dharwad and Mysuru contributing to IT exports of over Rs. 4000 crores,” said Mr. Kharge. The IT minister also stated that Karnataka has garnered “lion’s share” of about 40% of overall IT sector exports from STPI units in the country.

“I would like to highlight software companies from tier 2 cities such as Software Paradigms Infotech, 99Games Online and Sankalp Semiconductor among others,” he added.

From the past 18 years, STPI has been giving the STPI IT Exports Awards during the ITE.biz event, along with the state government. The companies will be chosen based on their performance in certain areas such as consistency in exports, employment and other related parameters for FY 2015-16.

22 companies have been selected by a committee consisting of representatives from STPI- government of India, government of Karnataka, academia, media and industry. The committee has scrutinized the performance of the IT companies and recommended the awards under different categories, covering the entire spectrum of IT, ITES and electronics and hardware exporting companies.
