2,612 Gitam students get jobs in 300 firms

IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) itself recruited 755 engineering students from Gitam Visakhapatnam campus.

Visakhapatnam: As many 2,612 students of engineering, sciences commerce and management, international business programmes were handed over appointment letters at the Gitam Achievers’ Day function held at Shivaji Auditorium on the university campus here on Tuesday.

Interestingly, a total of 300 companies visited Gitam University campuses located in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Karnataka to recruit the students this academic year. IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) itself recruited 755 engineering students from Gitam Visakhapatnam campus.

One of the Gitam University engineering final year students, S. Anirudh, was recruited by German Company, UniTech Transfer GmbH - German centre for automation and robotics with a high pay package of Rs25 lakh per annum. This is the first international placement this academic year and the selected student is a native of Srikakulam district. Varsity Chancellor Prof K. Ramakrishna Rao said they want to see more entrepreneurs in the future than jobseekers.

He also expressed that the University want to see more entrepreneurs in future rather than jobseekers. He advised the student community that they must inspire the society by taking inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi.

GITAM Vice-President Prof M Gangadhara Rao said that the University is planning to establish incubation centers in three GITAM campuses to encourage the students to initiate startups in coming years. Vice-Chancellor Prof.MSPrasada Rao mentioned that the University is imparting skills among the students with the help of industries. He appreciated the students who achieved success in campus placements. One parent said his total retirement benefits were less than what his son would be drawing as his annual salary.
