Bengaluru: With only days left to embrace GST, the ground level Income-Tax officials are still confused about using the GST system.

Despite the centre conducting various training programs, the superintendents, inspectors, commercial and excise tax officials seem to be having no clue about using the system that connects traders to the GST Network.

“There is no doubt that the traders are confused about entering the new regime. In addition, the officials in the I-T department are also not well-versed in using the system,” said Monish Bhalla, an expert on indirect tax. Mr Bhalla said that there is a grey area in the ground level. “If the law is enforced on July 1, the systems should be working and it’s not going to be a smooth ride,” he added.

CAclubindia member Nimish Goel felt, “GSTN in itself is such a big task to understand. We are talking about uploading two billion invoices per month onto the network. The entire mechanism goes for a toss if there is a mismatch in the credits given and payments made.”
