Etailers, Ikea a major help: Centuary

The company has set an ambitious expansion plan for its retail stores as it aims to become the market leader by 2025.

Hyderabad: The bedding industry in India has hobbled due to lack of standard bed sizes, but the entry of e-commerce players and international firms like Ikea are likely to put an end to that, Centuary Fibre Plates executive director Uttam Malani said.

Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Malani said, “People, previously, used to call up a carpenter to build their beds according to the size of their rooms. This meant that there was no standard size. Lately, this is changing with the entry of organised players and e-commerce firms.”

When asked about the impact of GST on the industry, he said, “The industry is largely unorganised. So, with the implementation of GST, it’s likely the industry will make a transition into the organised one.”

The company has set an ambitious expansion plan for its retail stores as it aims to become the market leader by 2025. It plans to double its store count across by adding 200 stores in FY19.
