Onion exports allowed without MEP, LC: Govt

New Delhi: Onion exports have been allowed without any minimum export price or letter of credit requirements, the government said on Tuesday.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued the clarification in view of complaints received from onion exporters that customs not clearing onion shipments without LC despite it been scrapped with from February 2.

"It is clarified that export of all varieties of onions are permitted without any minimum export price (MEP) or LC with effect from February 2 till further orders," the DGFT notification said.

Onion MEP was removed to encourage exports in view of crash in domestic prices following higher output.
