Mumbai: Top BJP officials including on Tuesday met dissatisfied representatives of right wing unions, in a mediation session organised by the Rashtriya Swyamsewak Sangh (RSS), to settle indifferences regarding new FDI rules.
Among the ministers who were present during the mediation session included Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitaraman, and BJP President Amit Shah.
The move is a reaction to the drastic change in FDI norms approved by the government in June, which has allowed 100 per cent FDI for trading, including e-commerce, on food products made in India.
Moreover, some RSS unions have also showed displeasure regarding the approval of 100 per cent FDI for defence, claiming that the new norm will put national security under threat.
Not only opposition parities but the BJP government has also received flak from trade unions linked to it. Some of the trade unions including the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, which operates as RSS’s labour wing, said that the new policy will kill local business and lead to the unemployment of thousands.
The RSS is also worried about the fact that if no action is taken against the newly approved FDI norms, some of its own unions will be forced to side with opposition parities to protest against it.
After the approval of new FDI norms in June, right after the exit of Raghuram Rajan, the Congress said that the government introduced these norms to prevent a total market meltdown.
